Many users like to watch movies with subtitles on iPhone. But sometimes – it’s just hard to find & transfer videos with captions on your device.
Well, in this guide we review 2 apps that make this a LOT easier.😀
Try recalling all the cases when during the movie, you asked: “What did they say?!”
Too many times, right? This is because most people “chew” words or the whole phrases, so you can’t understand a thing.
Hands down, the most effective solution here is to watch movies with captions. Therefore I will demonstrate how to quickly download videos with subtitles on your iPhone or desktop.
How to Add Movies with Subtitles to iPhone using WALTR
As a tech-savvy person, I’m trying to be aware of all the new tech stuff around. Recently I stumbled on WALTR 2 from Softorino.
WALTR 2 is a Mac & Windows solution that helps to add any movies, music, ringtones into Apple devices.
When I learned that WALTR 2 supports subtitles, I instantly wanted to give it a try!
Usually, I download both .srt subs and a movie separately. I was impressed that WALTR 2 could transfer both of them to my iPhone 7 with no issues.
Best of all, WALTR 2 works really fast. For example, I managed to sync 3 (!) films in 5 (!!!) minutes. According to developers, the average transferring speed is 2GB per 1 minute. Let me give you a quick insight on how to add subtitles to the movies with WALTR 2.
Step 1. Download WALTR 2 & Install it
WALTR works seamlessly on Mac and Windows computers. After you successfully installed the application, you can use it free of charge for 24h.
After you launch the app, it will tell you to connect your Apple device. You can either plug your gadget in using a USB cord or connect it via Wi-Fi network.
Step 2. Drag & Drop
With WALTR 2, you can transfer files to iOS devices without iTunes sync. You probably know – syncing with iTunes can take hoooours! So you will save tons of time if you use WALTR 2.
All you need to do is drop your .srt file along with the video.
NOTE: the names of these two files have to be the same. For example, “Rush_Hour.avi” and “Rush_Hour.srt”.
Step 3. Make sure subtitles are enabled on your device
Before you start playing the video, make sure you switched on the subtitles on your iPhone. For this go to ’Settings’ > ’General’ > ’Accesibility’.
Scroll down and select ’Enable Closed Captions + SDH’. Great!
Step 4. Choose the subtitles track & play the video!
After you see “Transfer Complete”, go to the Videos app, open a video and click on the bottom right cloud-shaped icon below.
There, you can choose the subtitles. There may be several languages to choose from.
Finally, you were able to add subtitles in iPhone movies. You’ve just solved one of the world’s puzzles!
You see, WALTR 2 will help you add the .srt file to an iPhone without a fuss.
There’s no need for iTunes and your movie can be in any format, including MKV, AVI, MP4, etc.
The application has a minimalistic UI, so it’s just exceptionally simple to use. I even taught my mom how to use WALTR.
I usually download TV series and music videos. Thanks to subtitles, I can memorize English expressions that I won’t hear anywhere else!
You probably know that Apple media players don’t support media formats like MKV, AVI or FLAC. But WALTR helps to transfer them to your device with no issues.
It converts them on-the-fly… automatically. So you can enjoy your favorite films, books, and music with no format restrictions whatsoever.
How to Add Subtitles on iPad with WALTR
You’d definitely prefer to watch a subtitled movie on a large screen. Well, who doesn’t? In this case, an iPad is the perfect device. It has a beautiful Retina display & more storage space than an iPhone.
You can use WALTR for adding movies with subtitles to iPad:
Connect your device to a laptop
Open WALTR & drag your .srt file & movie into the drop zone
Wait for the transfer to be complete. Nailed it!
With WALTR, it’s easy to add subtitles file in iPad, but you have to drop a movie file along with it.
Thanks to WALTR’s straightforward UI, even no-techies can quickly understand how to use it.
Best Websites to Download SRT Subtitles
For your convenience, here’s the round-up of top-3 websites where you can download subtitles.
The first one is subscene.com. This source is fast and easy to work with. You can always find the newest TV shows and films, so it’s very up-to-date.
All of the subtitles are user-generated, so you can find different variants of subtitles for the same movie.
There are also forums where you can request subtitles for shows and movies—in case you can’t find subtitles in your native language.
2. Subtitle Seeker
Subtitle Seeker is a metasearch service for subtitles. Why metasearch? Because it shows you search results from more than 20 web sources!
There are many sections, e.g. Newest Movies, Newest TV Shows, Newest TV Episodes, Popular Movies, Popular TV Shows, and Popular TV Episodes. There’s a lot to choose from!
3. Open Subtitles
This is where most people go to search for subtitles. This source has a good selection of subtitles, but the website is hard to navigate.
What’s worse is that every single subtitle download redirects you to the Open Subtitles MKV Player.
Why Open Subtitles is so popular? Because it has the largest subs database which supports lots of languages. There are subtitles you won’t find anywhere else.
How to Download Videos with Subtitles from YouTube
Yes, you can download subtitled videos even from YouTube! The only app you will need – Softorino’s YouTube Converter for Mac and Windows.
It’s no secret that YouTube has tons of videos for any taste. Plus, these videos usually go with subtitles. So it’s convenient to download videos from YouTube – because you won’t need to search for subtitles separately.
Before we start:
Make sure to download & install Softorino YouTube Converter. The app comes with a free 1-day trial during which you can use it with no limits.
You will also need to enable subtitle support in SYC 2 by going to the ’Preferences’ in the menu bar, then ’Advanced’ > ’Add Subtitles to Video’.
In SYC 2, open Preferences and enable subtitles to the videos
Alright, now you are 100% ready for downloading YouTube videos with subtitles.
Step 1. Launch & Search
You will need to connect your iPhone first. Just like with WALTR 2, you can do this by plugging your iPhone into your computer or by connecting to the same Wi-Fi network.
Afterward, you can search for a desired video/song. Just type its title in the search bar. Then select the needed file in the left sidebar.
Step 2. Convert & Transfer
Click on the Video icon and pick the desired quality rate. You can even download 4K videos!
Afterward, choose a destination path by selecting your iPhone. Finally, click on “Convert & Transfer To iPhone”. Wait for a couple of seconds and…
Step 3. Enable subtitles on your iPhone & locate your video
For this, just go to the Settings. app > General > ’Accesibility’. Scroll down and select ’Enable Closed Captions + SDH’. Great!
Now, open the default Videos/TV app. Launch a video. Look for the subtitle settings in the bottom right corner. Choose a language and enjoy!
All the steps are comprehensive and don’t require any technical knowledge. To be honest, I didn’t even read any tutorials on how to use SYC 2. I immediately started searching subtitled vids.
And of course, download speed is also impressive. For instance, I downloaded 4 music videos and 2 TV series episodes in just 4 minutes!
I have a confession to make.
English is not my native language (actually I have Ukrainian origins).
But I discovered that watching movies in English helps me A LOT with language studying.
Unfortunately, I didn’t have WALTR back then…So I couldn’t watch English movies on my iPhone or iPad.
But in 2K18, you can watch subtitled movies whenever you go. Even if you are riding the metro, or traveling by plane. So be sure to give WALTR a chance & let us know if there are any other apps that you use for watching movies with subtitles!
