Q: What is the difference between WALTR & WALTR 2?

WALTR 2 is the second major iteration of the famous WALTR Original. There are some crucial differences between the two major versions. Unlike the original application, WALTR 2:

  1. Supports Wi-Fi transfers;
  2. Seamlessly works with all Apple iPods ever released;
  3. Automatically pulls proper meta data & cover art from the web;
  4. Supports PDF & ePub documents.

This table sums everything up:

Q: WALTR vs AirDrop. What’s different?

There’s certain confusion over how WALTR 2 differs from AirDrop. The truth is – they are complete opposites. They have different purposes, work on different operational systems, support different folders and files. This article gives you a breakdown of all their vital disparities.

Q: Where do my files go after being transferred with WALTR?

All imported media go straight into your pre-installed apps that are developed by Apple.

  • If you transfer a video file, it will land into the pre-installed Videos app/Apple TV app.
  • If you drop a song – it can be played back directly from the default Music app.
  • If it is an EPUB or a PDF file – it will go straight to your iBooks app.
  • As for ringtones, they all appear in Settings>Sounds>Ringtone.

Q: Is there any quality loss when transferring high-res audio files?

There is no quality loss because we do not compress the files (unless you enable it in Preferences). We transfer all high-quality files into Apple devices without any quality loss. For instance, if you drop FLAC files into WALTR, they will be transcoded to ALAC (Apple Lossless) format, keeping all of its sound specifics.

WALTR swaps the file’s container without harming the file in any way. Since native Music player on the iOS cannot support FLAC files, we decided to simply make the file Apple friendly.

Here’s the snapshot of the file before and after it was transferred:

Q: Can I transfer playlists with WALTR?

In the current release WALTR 2 does not support playlists. If you drop multiple tracks into WALTR, they will be sorted by album. However, you can create smart playlists in iTunes, for instance, if you want to add all newly transferred songs to ‘Recently added’ playlist.

Q: How do I add movies with Subtitles using WALTR 2?

Subtitles in formats .srt and .ass are fully supported in WALTR 2. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Name your movie & subtitle file identically (e.g. MyMovie.mkv & MyMovie.srt)
  2. Drag your subtitle file along with your video into WALTR 2
  3. Enable subtitles support on your iPhone or iPad before the playback. For this go to ’Settings’ > ’Accessibility’ > ‘Subtitles & Captioning’
  4. Play your video!

Q: What should I do if WALTR does not see my device when connected via cable?

  1. Make sure that:

    • your iOS device starts charging after you plugged it in.
    • you have the latest iTunes version installed (download the latest version here). Skip this step if you are running on macOS Catalina.
    • your iTunes library/Finder recognizes your device
  2. If yes, reboot both your DEVICE and the computer, reconnect the device one more time, tap ‘trust’ and wait a bit.
WALTR should recognize your device as soon as you connect it to your Mac.

If the issue persists:

  1. Uninstall WALTR 2 completely using free AppCleaner app.
  2. After that, download and install WALTR 2.
  3. Check if the app recognizes your device. In case if it doesn’t, reach out to our genius support team.

Q: What should I do if WALTR pulls the wrong artwork & meta data?

Sometimes WALTR cannot locate the proper cover arts or meta data. In such cases, some troubleshooting is required.

Step 1. Check if the title of your movie/music album is correctly spelled.

WALTR grabs meta data & cover art from websites like IMDB. Therefore, you will need an official title of the movie or a music album to find a match.

If it’s TV series, we suggest using the following format: “TV_Show_Name”.S01E01” For example: Sherlock.S01E01.mkv

In this case, WALTR 2 will quickly locate the needed meta data on the Internet.

Q: Why does WALTR indicate that I have not enough Free Space on my Apple device even though there's plenty?

Sometimes this may happen because your device is not yet paired correctly with that Mac.

  1. Connect your iPhone/iPad/iPod to your Mac via USB cable.
  2. Open iTunes (or Finder) & make sure your device is set up properly.
  3. On your iPhone/iPad/iPod tap “Trust”.

If the issue persists:

  1. Uninstall WALTR 2 completely using free AppCleaner app.
  2. After that, download and install WALTR 2.
  3. Check if the app recognizes your device. In case it doesn’t, reach out to our genius support team.

Q: I transferred videos/music using WALTR but now it’s gone, why?

This situation might happen if you have ‘Automatic Sync’ enabled inside iTunes/Finder. The truth is – iTunes overrides all ’foreign’ content (created or transferred by third party apps like WALTR) from your device. There’s a simple workaround to fix this:

  1. Please connect your device to your computer.
  2. Open up iTunes > Device Summary > Options.
  3. Make sure that Automatic Sync is turned off for your device. [See screenshot below]

Q: "A problem has occurred loading this content" error when transferring AVI or MKV files

This issue occurs only on newer devices released in 2018 or later. Certain AVI or MKV are using video codec, which is not supported by Apple iPhone Xs/Xr and above. You will see the following message “A problem has occurred loading this content”.

Our development team is working hard on the solution, which will be released in the future.

Q: I cannot import pictures into my device using WALTR. Why?

WALTR 2 does not recognize, transfer or support images within the current release.

Here’s a little back story behind this:

Images support was in our plans from day one. However, because of iOS restrictions, pictures imported by 3rd parties cannot be removed straight from your iOS devices. This meant that we would need to create additional parts of UI that will help you delete images (which contradicts ultimately with the idea of minimalistic UI with no buttons). Therefore we decided to postpone this feature for the next releases.

Q: Why do I need to download iTunes drivers on my Windows computer?

Windows computers do not belong to Apple’s ecosystem. This means – that any Windows app that wants to access your iPhone (notwithstanding the model) needs to use Apple Mobile Support drivers. They are usually installed on your computer in the same pack with iTunes. Naturally, WALTR 2 for Windows has to use these iTunes drivers as well. This is simply the nature of the beast.

Because WALTR relies on iTunes drivers, you will need to update your iTunes to the latest version & delete outdated drivers. This will ensure that WALTR works properly with all the 2018’s + Apple devices. Basically, you will need to follow these instructions.

Q: How do I uninstall WALTR?

  1. If you want to uninstall WALTR 2 on a Mac computer:

You may delete the app by dragging .app bundle into the trash. Despite this, some leftover files will still remain on your system. In this case, download the free AppCleaner app and remove WALTR 2 completely.

  1. If you want to uninstall WALTR 2 on a Windows computer:
  • Open ‘Programs and Features’ by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Programs, and then clicking Programs and Features.
  • Select WALTR 2, and then click Uninstall.

We always strive to make WALTR brilliant. If you decided to remove WALTR because of a problem, let us know your reasons. All your feedback, good or bad, is highly appreciated!
